Senior Centers

Located throughout Jefferson Parish, JCOA’s ten senior centers promote the physical, emotional and economic well-being of older adults to encourage participation in all aspects of community life.  The centers provide social engagement and enrichment activities in addition being an informational resource for issues regarding aging, caregiver support, wellness and education.

The centers provide a wide variety of activities from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding some holidays.

The centers offer many social, educational, and health services opportunities for their members and their guests. Senior center membership is available to Jefferson parish residents who are 60 years old and older and their spouses (regardless of the spouse’s age) at no cost. To become a member, just visit any center and complete the application. Once membership is established, members can visit any center location. All members will receive a JCOA membership card so current membership status can be verified.

 

Activities offered at JCOA’s Senior Centers include:

  • Exercise, wellness, and health promotion education
  • Line dancing
  • Annual Health Fairs with area vendors and wellness screenings
  • Annual Veteran Appreciation events
  • Bingo, board and card games, bean bag baseball
  • Computer and language classes
  • Art, dance, and music classes
  • History and topical discussion groups
  • Pro Bono legal clinics
  • Day trips to special events and venues around Greater New Orleans
  • Special holiday programs
  • Regular birthday celebrations

Meals are offered by the senior centers to celebrate certain events such as birthdays or holidays.

Each of the senior centers serve as a JCOA nutrition site where eligible seniors  can enjoy a hot noontime congregate meal through nutrition services. 

Many seniors who cannot drive or do not have access to transportation, may use JCOA’s transportation services to attend the center.
