Scam Alert

During Open Enrollment, we see an increase in scams targeting Medicare beneficiaries. Senior Medicare Patrol would like you to beware of the following possible scams:

❖ Phone calls from people claiming to be from Medicare or the Federal Government asking you to verify or update your Medicare or Social Security number.
❖ An agent using misleading or high-pressure sales tactics to get you to enroll in their plan.
❖ Representatives that come to your door, uninvited, or call you if you are not already a member of their plan. ❖ Someone offering you cash or gifts for switching to their plan.
❖ Emails or solicitations in the mail from companies offering Medicare plans.

To avoid becoming a victim, hang up the phone if you receive a phone call from someone claiming to be from Medicare or Social Security. Call your local SHIP (State Health Insurance Assistance Program) if you are unsure about a plan or need assistance choosing a plan. If you think your Medicare number or Social Security number has been compromised, or you have been enrolled in a plan without your permission, or you have questions about these scams, call Senior Medicare Patrol.
